PIANIST WITH IRON HANDS

Solo performance, 2023

CHOREOGRAPHER I DANCER

“Pianist sem z železnimi rokami” (“I am a pianist with iron hands”, Srečko Kosovel, Nocturno, 1927)

Through the metaphor, Kosovel portrays the pianist as someone who smashes or destroys, while the piano represents the Karst region from which the poet originates. The poet is saddened by the world – one he cannot change – and yearns for another, better world.

Aren’t we all, in some way, pianists with iron hands, longing for a different world, a different life, in which we can truly be who we are – or who we aspire to become?

Music: Spoken word by Kaja Vidič, and Sergej Slavsky, Granum

Pianist with iron hands was performed at Codarts Theatre in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in 2023, and at Holland Dance Festival 2024 in Amsterdam, as part of Codarts Dance Company.
